Parallel Universes.

As a child, I had always been overtly obsessed about concepts from physics and I had loved discussing about it. Based on my interest, I pursued science in my graduation school only to realise that physics was the subject I hated the most. Isn’t it funny?

Well, I graduated from high school with good marks in all the subjects except for physics and then I decided that enough was enough, I had to take up literature.

Even though I hate the subject which powers the concepts I love, I cannot stop reading up about them. A very good example is the parallel universes. So the other day, I came across a theory on the internet. I shall try my best to explain it to you.

First, what are parallel universes? It is a theoretical concept, that the universe that we live in is not the only one. There are other similar universe(s), where all the entities including galaxies (ex. The Milky Way and Andromeda), stars, our Solar System, Earth exixts. Maybe in the same position, maybe not. The theory is that in those other universes, our clones live in the same situations. I’ll give you a small example. A girl called Anna lives in a pretty little house in San Francisco, USA, in Earth of the Solar System of The Milky Way of our universe. Her clone or clones live in the other universes under the same conditions, parallely. Hence the name parallel universe(s).

Second, I hope I could explain it properly. If not, you can always do a basic google search. It will provide you with a summary. Now, let’s come back to what I read online and I shall be explaining it with the same example. Let’s say Anna meets with a car accident. There are several possibilies. One, she might escape unscathed. Two, she is grievously injured and needs to be hospitalised. Three, she suffers minor injuries. Four, she dies. When Anna of this universe (say universe 1) meets with a car accident, she turns out to be lucky and escapes with some minor injuries. But the Annas of all the different universes, say there are four in total, has all the other *different possibilities* happening to them. Anna in universe 2 escapes unscathed. Anna in universe 3 suffers from a grievous injury and has to be hospitalised. Anna in universe 4 dies.

 Drawbacks of this theory

Parallel universes are universes where all the actions happen simultaneously. If you are eating lasanga sitting in your home, your four other clones in the other universes will be doing the same exact thing (I am just *assuming* that there are four universes).

So, if Anna is hospitalised, or dies for that matter, the entire situation changes from the possibility where Anna escapes unscathed. Hell, if Anna dies, there is no Anna left in one of the universes. And if one character is eliminated entirely, the entire scenario changes. In all, these possibilities happening in parallel universes is not feasible because, then the universes do not remain parallel anymore!

So here I am thinking about all these theories and thereby making my brain go berzerk when I should be studying. 😅

Please drop in comments, feedbacks, theories which are like this and you want to share or tell me if you already know about this. I would love to hear from you.

I just hope this could cause a ripple, however small or big in all of you. Good day!

  1. If you’re a fan of parallel universes, I suggest you read Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy. It’s one of the most fascinating series I’ve come across, and I assure you that it won’t disappoint you.
